CALGARY – Federal Environment Minister Jim Prentice is disputing charges by U.S. anti-oilsands campaigners that Alberta’s oilsands development is out of control.

Speaking in Calgary, Prentice says monitoring of the energy sector is increasing for both air and water contaminants.

And he says that while Canada is an energy superpower, it will continue to be a clean energy superpower.

A coalition of mostly American environmental groups have erected billboards in both the U.S. and England, urging potential visitors to Alberta to think again.

The so-called “Rethink Alberta” campaign says that uncontrolled energy development is damaging Alberta’s natural beauty. (CHQR)
